Real Photo Stamp – case study of a photo quality pre-inked stamp
A Real Photo Stamp is a pre-inked stamp that makes photograph quality images on paper. This page is a case study of how we developed it: what the customer needed, what we changed in the imprint die, and what the finished stamp delivers. The product page for ordering is Custom Photo Stamps.
The challenge
A rubber stamp reproduces a line drawing well, but it cannot carry the fine gradation of a photograph, and a stamp used with an ink pad tends to smear. For a stamp of a pet, a zoo animal or a character to sell as a product, the imprint has to look like the photograph itself, and it has to stay that way over thousands of impressions.
What we did
We used our open-cell porous plastic as the imprint die. The die holds oil-based pigment ink inside its connected pores and releases it through the printing face, so no ink pad is needed. How fine and how even the porous structure is decides how much detail the imprint can carry, so the die is developed and produced in-house.
